Colorado Box Elder Burl

The Rocky Mountain Box Elder is considered a maple tree and is more common in higher altitudes and can reach up to 80 feet in height. This light-colored soft wood often develops a red stain - a natural defense when the tree is injured or picks up an infection while growing. Cultivation of the Box Elders dates back to the late 1600s where Native Americans used the tree for sap and to make musical instruments.

This burl wood brings a feathering or marble look with the stunning light colored wood. The brown color is mostly tree bark or live edge, making these pieces incredibly stunning and very unusual. All of our products are lightweight, sturdy and perfect for daily wear.
